ClefRoom for drum teachers

A drum curriculum that gets past the first groove

Every drum student learns the money beat in lesson one. What comes after is where studios diverge: rudiments, reading, independence and repertoire, in an order that builds. ClefRoom holds that order.

What drum teachers run into

Grooves without reading

A student who learns by copying can play along to anything and read nothing. Without reading goals on the plan, the chart in the school band is a wall.

Rudiments get skipped

Paradiddles and flams are the technique of the instrument, and the first thing dropped when the student wants to play the song. They need a slot that is not optional.

No standard between teachers

Two drum teachers in one studio mean two ideas of what Level 3 is: one teaches from Stick Control, the other from songs. A shared level settles it.

Levels for drummers

Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop grade drums from debut to Grade 8 with technique, reading and songs at each grade; RCM has a percussion syllabus. Adopt one, or write levels around the rudiment sequence and the songs you use.

A drum level with a number on every goal.

ReadingEighth-note grooves and fills from the chart
IndependenceHi-hat foot on 2 and 4 under a rock beat

SongOne chart they chose, played to the recording
Choice pieceThree songs on the list. Theirs to pick.

Next student: same slots, different titles.

How ClefRoom fits drums teaching

Rudiments and reading as goals, with tempos
"Paradiddles at ♩=120" is a goal with a number on it. It gets a status, and the student sees it move.
Charts and play-alongs on the song
Attach the chart, the drumless track and the reference recording to the song once; every student assigned it gets them.
A level that means the same thing in every room
Two drum teachers assign from the same levels, so a student who changes teacher keeps their place.
